On April 23, the United States FCC voted unanimously to open the 6 GHz band for use by Wi-Fi and other unlicensed broadband radio systems. This new Order – which adds an additional 1,200 MHz for Wi-Fi – is the single most consequential FCC decision in at least a generation and in some ways eclipses the original 1997 decision opening the 5 GHz U-NII bands.
